Contraction → growth
Saudi Arabia 2023 is the first published Vault case.
The MENA Vintage Vault stores statistical releases as time-stamped evidence objects. Later revisions are appended rather than used to erase what analysts, researchers and policymakers actually saw before.
The final pre-comprehensive-revision 2024/Q4 publication still showed 2023 real GDP growth at −0.8%. The revised annual national accounts report +0.5%. The vintage transition therefore changes the qualitative description of 2023 from contraction to growth: a +1.3 percentage-point narrative reversal.
This is a statistical-measurement event, not a claim that the underlying economy changed after 2023 ended.
The comprehensive revision materially changed measured nominal GDP and sector composition.
| Object | Pre-revision | Revised | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nominal GDP, 2023 | ~SAR 4.003tn | ~SAR 4.570tn | GASTAT reports +14.1% / +SAR 566bn using underlying estimates |
| Real GDP growth, 2023 | −0.8% | +0.5% | +1.3pp; sign reversal |
| Non-oil share of nominal GDP | 47.5% implied | 53.2% | +5.7pp |
| Construction activity estimate | Previous estimate | Revised estimate | +61% |
| Wholesale/retail/restaurants/hotels | Previous estimate | Revised estimate | +29.8% |
| Transport/storage/communications | Previous estimate | Revised estimate | +25.6% |
A narrative reversal occurs when a later official statistical vintage changes the qualitative conclusion implied by an earlier comparable vintage.
Saudi Arabia 2023 is the first published Vault case.
Cross-country or sector ordering changes under later comparable vintages.
Derived ratios or growth thresholds cross a decision-relevant boundary after revision.
The Saudi case is the seed, not the finished regional archive.
