MENA Statistical Method Change Registry

A source-linked registry of documented changes to official statistical series: rebasing, survey redesign, classification migration, revised historical series, weighting changes and other discontinuities that can change what a time series means.

Records
15

Source-verified discontinuities.

Countries
11

Purposive pilot coverage.

Official bridges
7

Producer bridge/reconstruction verified.

No verified bridge
5

Researcher must preserve or resolve the break explicitly.

Claim boundary. These 15 cases were selected purposively because producer documentation was strong enough to support a concrete user action. The counts describe this pilot only; they are not estimates of the prevalence of statistical discontinuities or bridge provision across MENA.

What the registry records

Each case records the producer, affected series and period, documented method change, bridge class, direct-comparability decision, source links and the action a researcher should take.

Bridge class

official_bridge

The producer supplies a revised, reconstructed, restated or overlapping history sufficient for the stated comparison use.

Bridge class

partial_or_provisional_bridge

Some overlap or backcast exists, but it is provisional or does not resolve every comparison question.

Bridge class

no_verified_bridge

The Lab has not verified a producer-supplied bridge for the relevant transition.

Research rule

Method version travels with the observation.

A familiar series label does not erase a change in concepts, weights, classifications, sampling frames or historical treatment.

Selected cases

The full 15-record release is available in JSON and in the Series Compatibility Table.

EMO2026 replaces the former ENE framework

survey replacementconcept changesample redesign

HCP documents conceptual and methodological breaks and publishes EMO-compatible backcast indicators for 2017–2025.

Researcher action: use the EMO-compatible backcast where available; do not splice the old published ENE series directly onto EMO2026.

Chain-linked CPI with reconstructed history

chain linkingannual weightshistorical reconstruction

GASTAT documents a chain-linked CPI methodology and reconstructs the series from 2013 under the new framework.

Researcher action: use the reconstructed history for current analysis and preserve earlier vintages when reconstructing what users knew at the time.
Jordan · quarterly GDP · official bridge

Historical quarterly GDP comprehensively revised

historical revisionISIC Rev.4

The revised history covers 2008 through Q2 2025 and expands activity detail.

Researcher action: use revised history for current analysis; retain archived vintages when reproducing older forecasts or reports.

Non-financial-services survey redesigned from 2002

questionnaire revisionclassification changenew frame

CSB documents substantial changes to questionnaire coding, classification and the establishment frame.

Researcher action: treat 2002 as a regime boundary for detailed activity series unless a documented classification concordance is applied.

Review state

All 15 current records are source-verified against producer documentation. Independent non-author reproduction is still pending. Material disagreements and corrections will be versioned rather than silently overwritten.
