MENA Open Data & Evidence Lab is an independent research initiative building reproducible economic, policy and public-data infrastructure for the Middle East and North Africa. Its work focuses on reconstructing fragmented evidence into versioned datasets, research records and decision-grade analysis with explicit provenance, limitations and review state.
Official releases may be revised, archived inconsistently, published in multiple formats or separated from the definitions needed to interpret them. The Lab’s purpose is to make that trail inspectable rather than hiding reconstruction work behind a final number.
Current programmes cover macroeconomic evidence, labour and development, markets and financial conditions, public-data infrastructure, and methods and reproducibility.
Source hierarchy, provenance, version control, QA, corrections, synthetic-data disclosure and independent-review status are published alongside substantive outputs.
The research perimeter is regional. Coverage varies by project and is documented at the dataset or project level rather than implied from the Lab name.
The Lab is in an early institutional build-out phase in 2026. Public infrastructure already includes a release registry, publication registry, project registry, provenance standards, validation rules, procurement intelligence, a price-observatory release candidate, a developing AI × Labor panel and a reproducibility workshop programme. Early-stage status is disclosed rather than disguised with inflated team, partner or impact claims.
Layan Oraidi is Founder and Research Director. The current public people register also preserves several advisory roles as vacant until appointments are explicitly accepted.
No separate legal-entity status is asserted on this website unless and until a public legal record is available. The Lab currently describes itself as an independent research initiative.
